Checking If File Exists
Dec 4, 2006In client side, we can check if some image exists using onerror. I wish the same behavior to check files used in object tag (in client cache, not in file system), like swf, wmv and wma, etc.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to check to see if a dynamically created element exists BEFORE creating another element of the same exact type...but my if statement at the beginning is not working and another element is just created.
function writeElement(id) {
if(document.getElementsByTagName('transElement')[0]) {
var id = id;
killElement();
writeElement(id);
}
var id = id;
var transElement = document.createElement('transElement');

<INPUT id = "bot1" TYPE="button" name="text1" value="" size="40" onClick="location.href= valore12" >
the onclick is opening a file. How can I tell javascript a message has to be seen if if there is not that file in the specified directory...
I am having troubles finding a way to use JavaScript to see if a file exists before an ASP file upload script runs. Is there an Exists check for JavaScript? I thought I found an ObjectName.Exists but doing this did not work.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find a way to search to see if there is a specific file located in the current directory on the server. If a folder contains file1.txt or file2.txt and depending on which file is in that folder change a certain javascript variable. What it comes down to is, is there a way to search for specific files on the server and limit that to the current directory/folder.

I sell didjeridoos and handdrums.
I was hoping to create small html program for each drum, somthing like this....
<script>
thisdrum=new Image()
thisdrum src=drum001.gif
price=100
rim=12
height=24
</script>
<script src=createpage.js>
</script>
and saved as drum000 to drum999
Now I need a function included in the creatpage.js, that checks if a file exists,(eg drum000.html) if it does, go there, if it doesn't, try drum001.html
any suggestions on how I could go about it?
This is probably going to show how new I am to jQueryI have a form with an input text field for entering a URL. The user will most likely paste a URL and I want to automatically verify it's status once the user leaves the field. Basically just make sure the page loads ok.I've found dozens of topics that are close to this, but my lack of jQuery skills is hindering me from adapting any of them properly.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm new to javascript and PHP and I am wondering if there is a method or function to capture a 404 error in the event a particular html file cannot be found. I want to redirect that error to another page or design the code to send me an email telling me what page was selected and not found. In other languages I can trap such an error and respond to it.

I have a site with a news pages and I'd like the navigation to include a
blinking 'NEW!' when that page has been updated within the last three days.
It works fine for the one page (if you're on the news page, it works great)
but I can't figure out how to check the time/date stamp on a file other
than the one currently loaded ...
So I'm trying to create a custom file uploader which will display the name of the file selected, but since I can't seem to figure out how to do this I've settled for checking to see if a file has been selected, but I'm still having trouble with it.Here's what I have...
<style>
#upload {
display: inline-block;
text-align: center;
[code]....
However the value doesn't change after the file has been selected. Could someone tell me a means of modifying this so that it will properly display once the file has been uploaded? Do I need to have some sort of constant refresh on the Javascript to check to see if the value has been changed?
I have seen many Javascripts on Internet that checks the extension of the file before uploading. But all these scripts checks the extension when the Submit button is pressed. I want to check the file extension as soon as the file is selected. The script should delete the selected file from the type=file box and display an error message (when a file with the wrong extension is selected).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was looking in the firebug debugger and noticed that my main .js file was somehow being called twice, but I don't see where. There are dozens of files involved in this particular problem, so I think the best way to go about solving it is to test - in run time - if my js file is already in place on the page, do nothing - otherwise call it. This is pseudo that I have monkeying around with but it's not working.
Code:
function checkFile() {
var fileExist = new fileExist();
fileExist.onLoad = isPresent;
[code]....
I thought this would work, perhaps it's because of an argument I need to pass in to checkFile(ZYX) but not sure.
Is there a way using javascript to have it check if a file exists on the server? I'm trying to check for a file on my server without having to refresh the open webpage. If this can't be done with javascript, do you know which webpage languange can execute this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm try to set up a webpge that will play a live flash video on the left-hand side(got that part working) and display one slide of a presentation(jpg) to the right of the video. I would like to be able to control when the slide image changes by having some js check a text file on my server. The text file could contain something as simple as "Slide1.jpg". I will manipulate the text file with some code I've already written. Is there some simple js code I can put in my page that will cause it to check the text file every 5 seconds, and if the content of the file has changed, to refresh the image on the page with the new image? I'm try to get away from the "clicking" sound that is caused by doing a simple refresh of an Iframe.

I'm trying the figure out how to check if a id exists.
I have tried this;
if(document.getElementById("theID")
Then do this
But that doesn't seem to work.
All I want to do is if it doesn't exist then don't run the function.
I have the following script that auto-submits a form at intervals.
setTimeout("document.forms['pageReloader'].submit();",90000);
Unfortunately, sometimes the target webpage is not available and I get
"page not found". That immediately kills my application, until I manually
restart it.
Is there a way in javascript to first check if a link exists before the
form is submitted?
For php programmers, an example of what I want will be:
if(fopen("http://www.example.com/", "r") {
do something here...
}

How do I check if an object exists in Javascript?
EG:
if (document.getElementById("product").value == null)
