Directing The Cursor To A Input Field
Jul 23, 2005I'm writing a form and I'm using javascript
to validate fields (i.e. numeric, not blank). When my scripts detects an
error I want it to put the cursor in the corresponding field.
I've tried the focus option, but that doesn't seem to work.
This is the code I'm using:

alert('Veld mag niet leeg zijn');
veld.select();
veld.focus();
}
The veld.select() does select the error string, the focus, however doesm't
seem to work.
Anybody got a suggestion?

Dec 4, 2009Is there any way that I can get the first text input field to be active and READY for input.I am trying to save the user the trouble of clicking on the text input field before the user can type any information there. It is one extra step especially when using a touch screen that I would like to avoid.

Dec 30, 2011I would like to disable a feature on my site if someone is in a textarea or input text field. Yet I can't seem to figure out how to check for this... Could someone give me an example of how I can determine if a user does not have a text input or textarea selected? Can't seem to get anything I found via google working.

Jun 14, 2011I am having trouble with some javascript code that checks the first 2 letters of what the user inputs and whether it equals a certain set of characters. If the user for instance types in 'TT' in an input field, then i want the holding div to disappear, if anything else is typed in then this action wont happen. My code is below:

I believe the problem lies in the javascript line: "if (x == 'TT')", as the rest of the script responds but it just doesnt recognise whether 'x' starts with 'TT'

However, this will work fine when calling with a link "javascript:validate('inputForm');" but if I try to prevent users by submitting form with pressing enter I put it in form onSubmit parameter: <form .. onSubmit="javascript:validate('inputForm');"> which will check the forms and submit data (do return) no matter if it matched or no.

Do I need to each them, and check if its checked, then change its value, or is there a way to select all three inputs as just one radial button? It would also need to work if the input has not yet been checked.

If anything else is found, the script should clear the field, display an alert and then return the cursor to that form field. Everything works perfect except that the cursor will not return to the "pricenum" field after the alert popup is closed.

The problem I have, is having the cursor go in the text field. I know it works if the text field was there when I click on it, but because clicking causes an event to put it in, it does't act like I clicked on the text field. So what I'm looking to do is at the end of the replaceWith(#name_field), I want it to simulate a click so that the cursor would automatically be in there.
