I am trying to create a private chat from hacking some opensource chat room.I am trying to use some basic AJAX (noobie) to insert a field into a mysql db.It is doing what I want it to do mysql wise but it also changes the url.
my site runs like this. There is a page called private.php with all the php in. private.php has a switch statement to call other pages (the default is home.php).so if a user say clicks contact the link would be private.php?mode=contact.and then in the private page the switch statement would
case "contact":
require("contact.php");
break;
so the user has searched another user and wants to chat.the url at the moment is private.php?mode=full_profile&id=101 in the full_profile.php page I have the ajax in the head and a submit form to call the ajax function.
here is the ajax code
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
//Browser Support Code
function ajaxFunction(){
[code]....
now the mysql query runs fine. the problem I have is that when I click the submit the url changes to private.php?x=18&y=28 . (the x and y vales are different everytime I click the submit).can anyone tell me where the x and y values are coming from and also why the ajax function is changing the url as the whole point of using ajax is to avoid that.

I'm trying to create a four-box form in which the user enters information into the first two boxes,and the program fills the second two boxes in.Basically,I need a form to calculate the square footage and cost of a vinyl banner.In the first text box the user would enter the banner's height.In the second box the user would enter the banner's width.
The third box would multiply the height by the width and display the total square footage of the banner.So far, I have this part down. The following is what I need help with: the fourth box.The fourth box needs to display the cost of the banner. I have a complicated pricing structure. For example:
If the total square feet for the banner is under 12 square feet, the cost is $60.00. If the square feet for the banner is between 13 and 25 square feet. The cost is $4.80/square foot and ect...I believe this would be done using some variation of an IF statement but I can't get it to work.Using this example, what would I add to the form to get this work? The following is the form I have so far which just consists of the calculation of the square feet which is all I've been able to get working.
Code:
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>[code].....

I am having some difficulty in constructing a window.confirm() function that works with my code.So if the form data is valid, I need to use a window.confirm() dialog box to show the user's total cost based on the rental rate of equipment chosen and the reservation period. The user must accept the cost by pressing the confirm button, and if user cancels do not submit data.I have written this code but cannot figure out how to find the number of days from the 2 date fields and use that to calculate and display the total cost.
//confirm submit and display rental cost
var equip = document.forms[0].equipment.value
var pDate = document.forms[0].pickupDate.value[code].....

I have button with no width specified. The text value of the button differs, so i left it with no width.
It automatically sets the width but the problem is it to wide with about 5 spaces on each side of text letting the button look stupid.
I thought of working out the Text in a javascript function then set the length of the button.
<input id="{Description}" type="button" value="{Description}" onclick="{@name}.click(); style="background-color: #f9f9f9; height: 23px;"></input>

How can I find the height and width of a webpage? Say I want to make
sure someone's webpage is within an 800X600 viewing area. Width is the
most important but if I can get width, I should also be able to get
height.
I don't need to modify the page in anyway. Just get the width and
height. I can reference the page in an iframe, cfhttp (CFMX) or
something if it needs to be on my server.

Is it possible to select the elements who's width was specified by CSS? It's easy if they specified it by the width attribute *[width]. If you look at each elements css('width') it shows what was specified or automatically generated (always something).

I'm really not sure how to go about doing this, so any and all pointers are welcome. What I'd like to do is be able to find the position and width of a word that has been typed inside of a <textarea>, so that I might overlay some absolutely-positioned elements on top, and size them properly. I would really like to be able to do this in the most general case as possible (independent of fonts, font size, size of the textarea, etc.), but as stated any help is welcome.

I have a simple form on my artwork website that allows a customer to enter a numer of prints and a number of colours and then calculates a price of the order (for their curiosity only - that is the end of the function).I have now changed the way I have priced my orders and want to make it so that, for instance, if a customer wants 2 prints it will be 150.00 (75 per print) but 3 prints will be 195.00 (65 per print) and so on the more they order.What I want to do is to add a list of prints from 1 to 10 with a radio button next to each. the user can then select 5 prints.The way my form works right now (see code below) is that the customer enters a numeric value and then the javascript takes the value and multiples by a pre-set "PrintAmount" value.Because that value is constant - I can't make multiples of prints different values (or can I ?) Heres my javascript (form below):
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">

how to achieve client-side calculation on my company booking form, using Javascript.The total amount for accommodation is calculated based on the room type (single or twin), zone chosen and meal plan (which then assigns a certain rate per week,so for example Single room, Zone 2, Self Catering would be 165 per week). There is a table of rates here : http:[utl].....The code would then use the arrival and departure date to calculate the number of weeks, add a booking fee of 50 and output the total amount.The form is located here: http:[url]....

let me try to explain better what I'm trying to do. I'm a real newbie I don't know much javascript but I understand more or less the logic behind it... tell me if this solution should work and if you know how to do it please show me. [URL]... I need to make div#photo's width to match the total width measurement of all the images it contains. If you load the page and you don't touch the size, it will work fine... but that's not realistic. If I resize the page, which will happen often on this kind of page (I'm assuming), the whole thing goes haywire (try it, scroll to the last image and resize the page you'll see what I mean). What can I do? Is my idea the right solution? Am I not explaining this clearly enough? Let me know please, I'm desperate. I've been trying to get CSS to do this for me for 3 hours now. Nothing works.
