Assigning Document.writeln To Object

IE has no problem with this, but Firefox throws an exception - "Illegal operation on WrappedNative prototype object". Is it within its rights to do so?

I am trying to write a bunch of text onto a new document using document.write() and somehow need to format it to include line breaks.
For example:
Code JavaScript:
document.write(Line 1);
document.write(Line 2);
I have tried including and it does not work. I have also tried document.writeln() and that also does not work. From what I have found on the Internet, one (if not both) of those methods should have worked.

I have three files:
HTML file (default.htm)
Code:
<body>
THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPED OVER THE LAZY OLD DOG
<script type="text/javascript" src="testing.js"></script>
[Code]....
When I run the above files the original text on default.htm is wiped and replaced by the document.writeln text in test2.js. What I wanted to happen was for this text to be added to the default.htm page (and not wipe what was already there). I believe this is because the htm file has already parsed.
I know people say you should use innerHTML and not document.write or document.writeln. Unfortunately, I have no control over the contents of the first file (default.htm) or the third file (test2.js) but the content in test2.js will always be in either document.write or document.writeln format. So I cannot use innerHTML.
My problem is how can I (from within the second file, testing.js) ensure that the page is not parsed before the third file has finished.

I'm learning JavaScript, and I have learned very much of the language. But I don't know what the difference between document.write and document.writeln is.
Can somebody tell me the difference?

is there any way I can stop document.write from outputting info to a new page I would prefer to have it shown in a textarea.
Info from an array that is suppose to display in a text area when button is clicked and when another button is clicked it is suppose to show some other info. But what happens is the first info displays in textarea for a few seconds and then the second info is displayed but on a new page and not the textarea where I want it to go
I have marked code within the code // I want this specific code to be displayed second but I know its in the wrong spot.
Here is the code
[CODE]

I am barely familiar with javascript. I have this html code with an embedded iframe. The html file in the iframe refreshes every once in a while. That is fine. However, in IE, there is this annoying click with every refresh. I googled a bit and saw a few solutions. Seem to me that if I fetched the contents of the HTML file (AJAX call) and assigned it to existing document.
1. How do I assign an entire document in JS?
2. If I did this would this prevent the clicks?

Basically we are trying to simulate the tab key when the
down arrow key is pressed. (we know there are other way
to control focus flow but we use a lot of dynamic jsp fields,
that will make the flow control a nightmare, we just want
basic tabbing from the arrow key)
1)We are able to capture a onkeydown event and reasign it with another
key value with no problem within an html document without a form.
example:
var ieKey = event.keyCode;
if (ieKey == 40) {
event.keyCode = 9;
}
however as soon as we insert a form tag in the document, this stops
functioning. The asignment seems to be fine as an alert clearly shows, but the
instruction seems to be ignored. Code:

I've got a piece of code where, for all the world, it looks like this fails in IE 6:
hometab = document.getElementById('hometab');
but this succeeds:
hometabemt = document.getElementById('hometab');
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before, or am I dreaming?

I am trying to assign a variable to a jquery object that is found using the children() and eq() methods. This is a simplified version of the html structure.[code]Here is the jquery code. All I want to do is assign an object to the variable and be able to manipulate the object through the variable. [code]Again this is a simplified version of my code but the structure is similar.

Here's my object constuctor:
function suggest_object(result_id)
{
this.in_result_div = false;
this.search_element = document.getElementById(result_id);
}
And the execution code:
var suggest = new suggest_object(result_id);
document.getElementById(result_id).onmouseover = function(){suggest.in_result_div = true;}
It works as is, but i'd really like to be able to set the onmouseover inside of the object. Something like
function suggest_object(result_id)
{
this.in_result_div = false;
[Code]....
So how can I get the 'this' inside the onmouseover function to refer to the object?

I am trying to make a function run if the mouse is moved over the document but when using the object onmousemove it seems to run the code even if the mouse is still over then document, how can I make it so if the mouse is over the document but isn't moving then don't run the code but once the mouse moves run the code? This is the code I made to handle the mouse move collections.
[Code]..
But with this code it runs even when the user doesn't move their mouse and the notification box pops up every second as the code seems to think a still mouse is a moving mouse.
I was thinking about having a run once system but that would mean if the mouse moves it runs once and then if the mouse moves again the code will not run as it has already ran before.

I have been searching for a way to trap changes done to the document object (mainly by the function document.write();).
Example of code that doesn't work:
function myFunction() {
ed.document.onchange = doFunction(document.body.innerHTML);
ed.document.open();
ed.document.write('Hello');
ed.document.close();
}
function do_function(body) {
alert(body);
}
It only fires when the page loads, not when I change the text. You are free to use any event that works, but i think onchange was the one to fit this problem. The alert will write the initialpage, but will never write the tekst 'Hello' that is the new change.
Any javagurus out there know a solution to pick up any fired events triggered by document.write();

I'm using the following code to write to a new document. It is supposed to display image img, which is a map to the business. It opens a new windows properly, but the image does not display (it is in the correct location, btw). I've tried adding a URL to the window instead, and this does not display either. I've checked the source code, and it looks good. I must be missing something very simple. Does anyone see what I am missing?
newwindow=window.open('','','width=630,height=630,resizable=0,top=50,left=50');
newwindow.document.writeln('<html>');
newwindow.document.writeln('<head>');
newwindow.document.writeln('<title>Company Map</title>');
newwindow.document.writeln('</head>');
newwindow.document.writeln('<body>');
newwindow.document.writeln('<img src="images/' + img + ' />');
newwindow.document.writeln('</body>');
newwindow.document.writeln('</html>');
newwindow.document.close();

I can get the escape character " " or document.writeln to give me a new line.
Or for that matter any of the form feed " f " or carriage return " " to work either.
I can get the escape character " " " I'm using XP home with SP2 with IE6 all my security setting set to Prompt so if that was an issue then at least I should get a prompt for allowing the
script to work. I put my JavaScript in a .js file and have referenced it from the HTML page.
I've tried this on different machines that also use XP with IE6, is this a problem with IE?
I've tried:
<script type= "text/javascript" src="assets/beagle.js">

I thought that the DOM was XmlHttpRequest (in mozilla based clients) and
XMLHTTP in IE land.
So why do I see the window.document object (the document property of the
javascript client-side global object) referred to as the DOM object.

In an if statement with "document.images" as it's expression, does it
simply check if there are any image elements in an HTML page? I'm
assuming if it finds any that the expression will return true and
execute the statements within the if.

// various statements....

If I have a div in a document containing ordered lists (ul,li etc) and I use AJAX interaction with the server to modify the content of the div without page refresh, am I right in assuming that I cannot inspect or manipulate this new content using document.getElementById and similar methods of working with the document object? Or is there some way to do this?

I have a function that takes parameters of what the form name and the form object name is and then modifies the form accordingly. Now I can make it work fine if i make a separate function for each form object, but that seems very cumbersome. This is what I have
document.formName.formCat.selectedIndex;
i want formName and formCat to be variables so I can specify in the parameters which part of the form to deal with, but i get an erorr. Is this possible?

Is it possible to get a reference to a form's document object exclusively from a reference to the same form? I mean, for example, if I have:
var f1 = document.forms["form1"];
var f2 = parent.document.forms["form2"];
var f3 = top.document.forms["form3"];
Is it possible to get the document object of each form only from these vars? Is there something like, i.e., a "form.document" property?
